Today during our school time Taylor decided to do his last 5 lessons of math so he could finish early. After he was finished we showed Dad and he signed the certificate in the back of his math book. We could see pride all over Taylor's face as we congratulated him on his accomplishment.

I am so grateful to get to enjoy all of these moments with my kiddos. I love seeing Jocelyn remember a letter's sound or see Taylor read a clock correctly for the first time or watch Kristyn "work" hard on her paper so she can be like her big brother and sister. I am very blessed to be able to homeschool my kiddos, to have a husband that supports and encourages me (and is very involved in our schooling), and to have many friends on the same journey to walk with us.

Mama had just as much fun getting ready for this party as the girls did having it! I called the castle cake 'impressionistic' ;)

Jocey turned 5 on April 5th and Kristyn turned 3 on March 28th.

Poor Bella Janssen was sick with the flu but we were thankful for skype!

It was quite a party with lots of princesses and some gentlemen.

Lexi won the prize for the prettiest princess!

Thank you all for their beautiful gifts. The next day Jocelyn said, "see Mom, all my friends knew I loved beautiful things!"

Sonscape 2011

A week that Kris and I have been waiting for, for 10 years......but didn't even know it!

Our Counselor couple, Mike and Sandy, were really tough on us!!!! Ha, actually they were exactly who I needed. Sandy new just when affirmation would be the hardest to take but exactly what I needed. And Mike, he said the hard things that God wanted me to hear. I heard you, Mike!

Kris was really closed to the whole thing. :)

Wayne and Kandy from Texas. Our host couple. The fun of the retreat. All through the week God gave me little gifts. Wayne reminded me in sweet ways of my Dad. From his "stories" aka jokes. His wisdom on business and lifetime of being a great business man. I really respected my Dad in his integrity. Wayne....same thing. Thank you, Wayne.

And then there was Kandy. Whenever I tell people my Sonscape story I have to tell them about the little look that passed between Kandy and I that said, "we know how to have fun!" I have heard other peoples Sonscape story and how they enjoyed meals together as a group and then went their seperate ways to enjoy MORE silence and solitude. Well, my Father knew that by the evening I had had just about as much silence and solitude as I could take. It was time to party! We ate, we laughed, we played games!!!!! Love you Kandy and am thankful that God put you at Sonscape just for me!

While at Sonscape they told us numerous times, "you can do whatever you want". Pretty liberating, huh?! But then there was the technology fast we were on.... Well, on our Sabbath near the end of our experience we decided that we were going to "play". And our "play" included renting a movie, driving up, up, up into the mountains onto a trail where no one else was and watching a movie on our in car DVD player! So fun!!!!

On the last evening we had a cook out and it wouldn't be a mountain cookout without a little snow. Remember, Wayne is from Texas, probably a new experience for him!

This is the beautiful sight that greeted us when we came down from the mountain.

So what am I bringing home with me? The absolute best thing is that my Father loves me. And that is a whole story all its own, but the best one of my life!

Our pace, our schedule, our sabbath, solitude, play....I am praying that it all changes in some small, some big ways. Kris and I came down from the mountain both with sweet times listening to our Father and really knowing His voices better than ever. So, what He wants different in our lives, we're listening, and wanting to change.

At times Kris and I have asked eacthother, "can we just go back to Sonscape". But you don't live on the mountaintops....you go there to get quiet, get rest, listen to your God and then come down and get back to the people God has for you. I am just at the very beginning of understanding God's purpose for my unique little life but I know for sure it begins with, He loves me!

RETREAT!!!!!!!

Kinda sounds like I'm in battle and on the losing side, huh?! Well, actually my man and I are heading to the mountains for 7 full days of retreat, rest, silence, counsel, and other things that sound wonderful (and a little scary).

We are going to http://www.sonscape.org/ and when we get there the the phone goes off, the computer goes off and there are no tvs, ahhhhh. Now that is relaxing! So you can pray for us as we talk, pray, and take some rest. We want God to move us, or keep us still. His choice!

First off I need to give all credit for these pics to my fabulous friend, Sara! We have been friends for over 11 years and throughout that time she has documented our life in photographs! They just moved to Longmont so we now get to have weekly library days which just love. We joke that I now have my own personal photographer. The computers and play centers are the most interesting thing at the library these days.

I am amazed how a 4 year old can figure out the computer and I was WAYYYYYYY older when I first started getting into the computer.

Explaining that we have to leave is a sad time...but we'll be back next week!

Loveland Lunch

Once a month a group of ministry women meet in Loveland. Sometime with kids, sometimes without.

This time we met and chik fil a. It was kind of like a circus with the older kiddos laughing and playing at their own table (which made them feel all grown up).

Longtime friends enjoyed catching up.

And Mamas with babies tried to get in a good conversation in the middle of a sea of babies. I am so thankful for these women. We share our struggles, we laugh Alot!

Whats Not to Love About This Man?!

When I was in college I made a list of all the things I desired in a husband and asked my parents to both write one too. I vividly remember coming home from Kris and my first date and calling my mom. I just had to tell her that after talking with this man for many hours (about 5 hours straight) it seemed like he was almost everything on all three of our lists! Even my silly things like being tall. Kris is 6'6" :) I knew quickly that this was the man I had dreamed of marrying and after almost 11 years of marriage I believe that even more!

Kris, you are the gentleman, protector, provider, leader, lover, and friend I prayed for all those years ago. You are so handsome, really FUN, spontaneous, adventurous, and trustworthy. One of the little quirks that make us perfect for eachother is that we love change! I love that you think and dream big and I mean big. My heart skips a beat when I think of all we have done together and that we get to keep doing more for as long as God wants! Wow, I am so blessed. And to top this all of you are an amazing dad. Just like today when you came into the family room to tell the kids you were taking them to the park, right now! They will always think of you as a fun, adventurous, and strong Dad. Someone they just know they can trust.

I see God doing more in you. He is growing you. Thank you for being willing to go where He wants. I will follow.

Girls Night!

Thanks to all the fabulous women who joined me for a girls night while Kris was away. There was eating, games, American Idol, and lots of laughter!

a Surprise family event

Kris kept the kiddos on pins and needles all day telling them he had a surprise for them. When we got to the game they were giddy! The big basketball players and pretty cheerleaders were amazing to the kiddos.

Sad for CU but good for us, the stands are never very full so the kiddos could roam around and really enjoy themselves.

We ended the evening with big pretzels and a win for CU! A great memory made.

The kiddos had been keeping track and memorizing Luke 2:1-6...

Nelda joined us from Mongolia even though it was the middle of the night there!

I enjoyed starting a new food tradition for our family...Eggs Benendict on Christmas morning.

Then we headed to the tree. The presents had been around the tree for weeks and the kiddos were almost bursting with anticipation!

Boys Day

What makes a 6 year old boy happy? Mama letting him and two of his best buds leave the house after breakfast (and a little school) to fish, explore, probably get in a little trouble, and get really dirty but wait.....it gets better. We decided to really show the boys we love 'em so we brought them sandwiches and chips for lunch and left them to themselves till supper. Now thats a memory in the making!

My beautiful niece, Anne Yon, won the election for County Commissioner in West Virginia last night! We are so proud of her! My dad was a legistlator in North Dakota and our family has always been active in government. It is exciting to see my niece, who is still in her 20s be willing to serve people in this way. Wish I could be there to celebrate with her!

The Christian and the Materialist

If Christianity should happen to be true, then it is quite impossible that those who know this truth and those who don't should be equally well equipped for leading a good life. Knowledge of the facts must make a difference to one's actions.. Suppose you found a man on the point of starvation and wanted to do the right thing. If you had no knowledge of medical science, you would probably give him a large solid meal; and as a result your man would die. In the same way a Christian and a non-Christian may both wish to do good to their fellow man. The one believes that men are going to live fore ever, that they were created by God and so built that they can find their true and lasting happiness only by being united to God, that they have gone badly off the rails, and that obedient faith in Christ is the only way back. The other believes that men are an accidental result of the blind working of matter, that they started as mere animals and have more or less steadily improved, that they are going to live for about seventy years, that their happiness is fully attainable by good social services and political organizations and that everything else (e.g., vivisection, birth-control, the judicial system, education) is to be judged to be"good" or "bad" simply in so far as it helps or hinders that kind of "happiness".

Now there are quite a lot of things which these two men could agree in doing for their fellow citizens. Both would approve of efficient sewers and hospitals and a healthy diet. But sooner or later the difference of their beliefs would produce differences in their practical proposals. Both, for example, might be very keen about education: but the kinds of education they wanted people to have would obviously be very different. Again, where the materialist would simply ask about a proposed action, "Will it increase the happiness of the majority?" the Christian might have to say, "Even if it does increase the happiness of the majority, we can't do it. It is unjust." And all the time, one great difference would run through their whole policy. To the materialist things like nations, classes , civilizations must be more important than individuals, because the individuals live only seventy odd years each and the group may last for centuries. But to the Christian, individuals are more important, for they live eternally; and races, civilizations, and the like, are in comparison the creatures of a day.

The Christian and the Materialist hold different beliefs about the universe. They can't both be right. The one who is wrong will act in a way which simply doesn't fit the real universe. Consequently, with the best will in the world, he will be helping his fellow creatures tot heir destruction.

I actually got teary eyed while reading this book to my kiddos during school today. We are studying the moon and so I checked out "Moonshot" from the library. I has great illistrations and takes you along for the journey to the moon with Buzz Aldron and Neil Armstrong. Hope you enjoy!

Childhood is fleeting...

I a reading a book called, "Beautiful Girlhood" right now and have been reminded and the unique, short time this "childhood" is. So I want to remember to gaze at Kristyn's especially cute grin.

I want to take notice of Jocelyn as she sings her made up songs and shows me yet another new gymnastics trick.

When Taylor has something to say, I want to really listen and when he asks to spend time "just you and me" I am going to do it. What a priviledge to have these children.

Someday soon they will be too big for lollipops and piggy rides. Soon I will be tempted to often be looking back. But as girlhood and boyhood disappear, I pray that I will be glad for the time and energy I gave. Knowing I gave it my best and leaving the rest to my Heavenly Father. No regrets just sweet, giggly, cuddly memories.

Longing for change....

As I read this fabulous book by Edith Schaeffer I realized that I have been longing for change. Not change in location, relationships, or schedule but a change in me. Listening to Edith's story of the crazy adventure of prayer and faith that 'the God who is there' took Francis and her on as they started Labri' gave me an inner stirring. "Am I living in that kind of expectation and openness for what God is doing now or wants to do, if I would just be open to His plans?"

So I am longing...which is right where I think He wants me at this time. I know He has plans for today, tomorrow and next year. And I want to be in on them!

During lunch after our first day of school Kris was reviewing some of the things we had talked about and learned. Jocey remembered that on the first day of Creation God said, "Let there be light" and I finished it off with, "and it was good". Taylor then perked up and said, "God should have said, "Let there be Red Robin! and it was Good!"

Guess where we ate our special first day lunch? :)

Daddy Daughter Date

When you ask Jocelyn her favorite things are swinging and ice cream so treat her special Kris decided to give her just that. You will notice she was glowing from all of Daddy's attention.

Being the center of affection for a few hours can do wonders for a Daddy and his little princess.

Jocelyn is Kris's special princess and she felt it.

She even got brave...the chik-fil-a cow has always been a bit of a intimidation to Jocelyn but not with Daddy around.

Taylor and Jocelyn's friend, Bella Janssen, spent the day having some very serious play time....and I do mean serious. Bella's mama, Sara, and I laughed numerous times and how 'into' their games they were. They even forgot to be hungry at supper time! But Kristyn must have been concerned for them and continued to go to the door and yell, "come and eat!" So finally they came in and asked if they could eat in their "house". When I went to help Jocelyn get up on the fort (barely enough room) I put her back to the big blue rubbermaid container lid that was leaning against one side of the fort. Taylor immediately said, "No, now we can't see the flatscreen tv (aka rubbermaid lid)!"

Watching our kiddos imagine, create, and act our "life" in their own little heads is a fabulous way to spend and afternoon!

For some reason I really enjoy finishing things. I have been completely amazed when Kris will have three uses of his toothpaste left (if you squeeze REEEAAALLLY hard) and he will just throw it away!!!!! Not me, when I get that last little drip of shampoo, lotion, soap, ahhhhhh, now that feels good. I am telling you this secret quirk of mine to tell you. Tonight I am going to finish, "Stepping Heavenward". Finishing all those other things feels good but finishing a book, especially one that you have somewhat 'lived' in....heavenly.....nighty-night, off to read.....

Our good friends, Josh and Julie Luse move to Lincoln, Nebraska today. It is amazing to think back through the journey we have all been on together in the past four years. Lots of unknowns, lots of discussions, questions, problems, and many opportunities to see God work.

I was informed yesterday by Taylor that Jocelyn is going to be a singer when she grows up. He told me in front of a smiling Jocelyn (who loves to be complemented but most of all by her big brother) that she is going to going to be a singer because she sings all the time and she makes up good songs.

I love watching Jocelyn discover new things to sing about. She is in the process of discovering who Christ is and I am watching as she comes closer to accepting Him as her Saviour. What a beautiful journey. I pray that when she embraces her relationship with her Lord that her heart bursts with song! Cause the angels will be singing!

Taylor's latest life plans:

never go to college because then he would have to leave home and he "wants to live in this home forever!"

to marry his sister, Jocelyn....I'm fine with him thinking shes the only girl worth marrying for a long time.

and to have 29 kids. He has told both Kris and I on separate occasions this exact number!

Artist, scientist, basketball player have all come up as potential careers....I love watching him grow!

For Jocey and Kristyn's birthday Grandma Grubb gave the girls money for a swingset. And just days before their birthday I found THIS on craigslist! Thanks Kris and Drew for taking it apart....moving it....and putting it back together. LOTS of work but the kiddos believe it was worth it.

You know those routines that are just "routine" now but in sweet moments you realize how much they will, someday, be missed. Kristyn and I have just such a moment. Most evenings when putting Kristyn to bed I will ask her if she is ready to go to sleep and her response is, "no! wokaby!" For those of you who don't know her language she loves to rockaby. So Kristyn and I sit down in our rocking chair. Her cuddled in my arms with a favorite "banky" and "baba" and we sing. The songs are always the same. First "puppy song" which is "How much is that doggy in the window" and then "you are my sunshine". Kristyn does the woofing part on the puppy song and sings along with me to the "sunshine" song. She giggles throughout all the singing. We always end with our homemade nigh-night song. She sings to each person in the family and then laughs as I sing to her....

"Nigh-night Kristyn,

nigh-night Kristyn,

night-night Kristyn,

we love you very much."

Then we both pray and she happily lays down in bed. She loves the banky over her face and as I am shutting the door and I hear a sweet, "bubyeeee"

a new part of life for our family is being a part of the beginnings of Crossroads Community.

Tom and Janet Walker moved to Colorado in October to lead a new Berean church plant in Longmont, CO and we have been excited to help! Our Sunday mornings are spent at the Walker home with many new and old friends. We eat a great breakfast....

The kiddos LOVE kids time with Janet....and we love what a great teacher she is!....

and we love the teaching, encouraging, and community that happens! God is doing new things in Longmont, CO and we are just along for the ride! Praise Him!

Happy Birthday Jocelyn

The morning of Jocelyn's 4th birthday she asked to go to the "coffee shop" for breakfast which is her way of saying Panera. So we ate bagels and chocolate milk in honor of our princess. She chatted with Grandma Grubb and Auntie Zona and giggled when they sang "Happy Birthday" to her. She got to talked with Grandpa Cheek and Grandma Cheek and loved all the attention!

Her next request was a bike ride and the park and on your birthday in our house. Your wish is our command. So off we went!

After a 12 MILE bike ride we made it to the park. (don't ask why it took that long) The girls favorite thing is the swing....

And Taylor spent his time practicing his skateboarding. He is getting good!

Happy Birthday our Jocelyn girl! You are blooming into a kindhearted, helpful, funloving, people loving girl. I see your daddy in you as you love to be with people all the time and get energized by a party! Seeing your desire to help blossom is such a joy to this mama and you are a great helper in the kitchen! We love you and thank our Heavenly Father for letting us bring you up to love and honor Him!

He Is Risen Indeed!

Did you grow up hearing, "He is Risen" (answer) "He is Risen indeed!" being said all around you on Easter morning at church. Well, when Janet leaned over and said, "He is Risen!" and gave me the chance to say, "He is Risen indeed" I felt at home all over again.

We had "all gathering" (see emmausroadonline.org) at Glen and Jeanne Hougen"s home. Over 75 people showed up and it was awesome. People were sitting on chairs, the floor, the stairway and we were all worship, celebrating and learning together. Josh Luse brought the Word and IT WAS GOOD!

Birthday Girl

My beautiful friend, Kristin, stayed with me for the weekend after my bachlorette party so one morning the girls went out for breakfast, then shopping, then out for lunch! We were celebrating my little Kristyn's 2nd birthday. And yes, my friend, Kristin is who we named our little one after.

At house church that evening we had a butterfly cake and Kristyn enjoyed liking the frosting until we let her blow out the candles and eat!

So, I was tricked into thinking that Kris and I were doing a date night and was sent to my fabulous friend, Justina's house at the beginning of the evening. I thought maybe it was a double date. When I arrived I found a room full of my sweet friends (two from out of town) saying, "surprise! Happy 10 years!"

You see, Kris and I are celebrating our 10 year anniversary this April. A few years ago Justina heard me say that every girl should get a second bridal shower on her 10th anniversary because everything is worn out by then. So she decided then to throw me a shower but not just any shower....a bachelorette party!!!!!

We stayed up all night, had fabulous chocolate fondue! and risque presents!!!!!

This is the most G rated picture I have of the night! Every minute of the evening I felt so blessed to be surrounded by these women that love me. I do not take for granted that I have been given some beautiful friendship by my heavenly father. Thank you Justina, Kristin, Kelly, Sarah, Rebekah, Kristen, and Liz!

Tonight was one of those nights you wish you had recorded so you could remember it forever......

As my two eldest were climbing into bed Taylor asked Jocelyn this question, "Jocey, why don't you want to go to Heaven?" And to my surprise Jocey's eyes welled up with tears and she said, "I like God but I just don't want to die." I laid down on the bed next to her ready to start explaining Heaven to my daughter when my five year old son took over. Here was Taylor's explanation: "Jocey, you die here but you are alive in Heaven! And you won't be alone, your friends will be there. What friends do you want to be in Heaven? Jocey listed off some friends, "Eve and Sophie, Toni and Lauren, Ryley....." "They'll be there if they love Jesus. And Heaven is all shiny, everything is gold and Jesus is there preparing a place for us." Jocey asked, "will there be a trampoline?" Taylor answered, "yes! God is our Father, like Daddy. But He is our Father!" After a few moments of thought Taylor said, "and Jocey you might not ever die...because someday Jesus is gonna come down...I think?" Then with resolution he said, "no I KNOW He is gonna come down" By this point, with tears streaming down my face I was about ready to shout Hallelujah! The conversation ended with Taylor asking me, "Mom, we live here and then we die. Then we go to Heaven and then when do we die?" I was excited to tell him, "When we get to Heaven we will never die but we get to live forever!" He laughed and said incredulously, "NO?!" I answered, "Yes! its true" and he just laughed and said, "I can't wait to go to Heaven."

Afterwards I went down to tell Kris this beautiful conversation I was allowed to be in on. To know that Taylor knows his Father this well and that scripture has started to take root to the point that he knows what he believes. Nothing could be better than hearing your child's faith. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Father!

In the Midst

I started this morning rushing around trying to get my house just right. I am super excited to have my mom and sister here for the next 6 days! My husband decided to totally bless me with a new refrigerator and THAT gets delivered today as well. To top it all off my mom wanted to give us money towards a nice big wood swing set for the kiddos and I just so happen to find one on craiglists a couple days ago. Its close by, in great shape and hundreds of dollars cheaper than any one I have seen in months. Now if that is not a God thing than what is. Kris and some great friends are going to go get it TODAY! So what a great day right?! Well, it just hit me that in all the preparation for the fun I have forgotten to thank the One who is responsible for it all. He loves to give His children good gifts. like family, refrigerators, wonderful husbands, kiddos, and swingsets. Do you ever forget the One in the midst of it all. Well, today I am stopping myself and remembering.

I won't argue with you there, Jocelyn!

Kris was fixing some of our kitchen chairs and while he was trying to tighten a bolt (and having troublt) Taylor said, "Dad, you need to turn the other way!" When Kris followed his advice it worked perfectly. We have numerous evidences of Taylor's natural gift with fixing things...and we are wondering where he got it from.

Lately Taylor has been telling me what he wants to be when he grows up. It started off as a dentist and even though I thought that was unusual I went with it. I had him tell dad what he wanted to be and then asked him to tell me what a dentist does. He said, "he works on space ships, looks in microscopes and studies things. "Ooooh, you mean a scientist!" Thats more like it. He thought it was very funny when I explained what a dentist did. His other passion right now is to be an artist. Every day we get a new art piece. It may be a painting, drawing, sculpture or leggo creation. Love to see his imagination in full gear!

When asked what Jocelyn wants to be it is always a Mama. and today she added and a teacher! You go girl!

I love looking at homes and since I know some of my friends are the same, here is my home to look at. There are only a couple things in my home that I would call "finished" as in I like how they look and don't want to change it. My bedroom and our stairway collage are the only two so far to be in that catagory. But since I like to get things at garage sale prices it will be awhile before this home is "finished". In the meantime we love living in it, having lots of people over, and are very blessed!

Friday morning, early morning I get out of bed and head to a local Starbucks to meet my ladies...

Sarah is a woman I look to for fun, laughter, and so often she challenges me with God's Word

Kristin has a heart that shows in the first moments you meet her. She convicts me ofter too look past what I want to what is obedience, faith, and holiness.

Pandi is a woman you love from the start. Her quietness hides the depth of her heart and I am thankful I have been given these mornings to go deep with each of 'my ladies'. Three of my ladies weren't there this morning so soon you will meet more fabulous women that today I want to say I am grateful for!

Snow Day!

This morning we woke to a flurry of huge flakes and our plans got cancelled for a much needed SNOW DAY!

It was hilarious to watch Kris struggle to get the kiddos in all of their snow gear and then see how long that takes in comparison to how quickly they come back in from the cold. They had a great time playing and eating snow.

My very favorite reason for going to the cabin for Christmas is having many hours to fill with reading, talking, eating, and playing games.

After a few days we kept commenting on how great the kiddos all played together. I think they just enjoyed having long hours with mom and dad, aunt and uncle, and grandma and grandpa....Not to mention Cousins!

I gave a puzzle to George and Jan so we could all put it together during our stay....I'm still not sure if they liked it or not. Thanks mostly to Jeff and Mom we got it done in the first 48 hours....Jeff kept saying he couldn't leave it alone so he MUST finish it so he could move on with his life. Our accomplishment will be forever remembered.

Christmas at the Cabin

We were all excited to get to the cabin the Wyoming for Christmas with the Cheek fam....almost as excited as Kristopher to open presents

In our new matching pjs from Grandma and Grandpa we dug right in...Tara received a romantic little gift from Jeff, a new wedding ring.

The kiddos were all eager to help whosever turn it was to open

I received lots of glam for Christmas, which was just fine with me! The bracelets from T and zebra print pjs from mom for a start!

Every grandchild received a hand knitted hat from Grandma. Shes pretty cool!

Our Pre-Christmas!

We seem to have a tradition of opening our presents to eachother and from whatever family we won't be with at Christmas sometime before Christmas.

So this year the kiddos enjoyed leisurely opening and playing with their gifts from Grandma Grubb and Aunties, Nelda and Zona.

My nephew, Lee, also joined us and gave the kiddos each a stuffed animal.

Taylor thought it was so cool to get matching shirts with Lee. He thinks he is pretty cool.

Kris gave me a great stereo for my kitchen which I had asked for but I asked him if I could trade it in for a day of skiing at Snowy Range Ski area. It was a GREAT gift. Its been over 5 years since I last skiied and I can't believe I've been away this long!

You are probably wondering why there are no pics of Kristyn.....she fell asleep long before the presents came out and the other kiddos soon followed. Merry Christmas and good night!

A great way to start Christmas

My Mom and Kris got together and got us tickets for the Nutcracker ballet in downtown Denver. It was a day to get dressed up, just be us, and enjoy an experience we don't have very often.

Kris was great! He treated me like a queen and said he even enjoyed the ballet (at least the first part). I enjoyed every second and am very thankful for a mom and husband who like to surprise me!

Most of my family met at my brother, Stanton's home in DesMoines, Iowa.

Among other things we had a hootenanny! Just sitting there, listening to my niece and sister-in-law's voices and my brother and nephew's musice filled me with gratefullness for a family that loves the Lord and sings His praises.

Another blessing was skype! My sister, Nelda, is living in Mongolia but on Thanksgiving day she was right there with us...all day long. I've never been so thankful for technology.

For Christmas, my sister in law, Tara gave me a book that we were both excited to read. It was on back order so I received just a few days ago. I got it in the mail, took it out of its package and within 48 hours had devoured a beautiful book full of great writing, beautiful stories, and challenging insights. Every mama should read it (and every daddy)!

my sweet neice gave me a book for Christmas and I read it in two days. For anyone homeschooling or considering it I would say this is a good read. Honestly its not in my top five books for homeschoolers ( and yes, I have mental lists of books on most subjects...does that make me strange?) Anywho....this is a book that is good to read that is not a "Christian" homeschool book and I like getting that perspective. So read, "Homeschooling A Families Journey". Lots of good tips and interesting insight.

Aren't kiddos supposed to always love baths??!!! Well, Taylor and Jocelyn always have but until VERY recently Kristyn would cry through the whole thing. Needless to say her baths were as quick as we could make them. Then one day...she decided to love them. Now when we ask if she is done we hear a loud, cute, "NO!" So we let her stay in as long as she wants to make up for all those tearful baths.

How did our boy want to begin his fifth birthday? With bacon, of course! So we took him out to eat at the Original Pancake House in Boulder. Then we headed out to play!

We played games at Chuckie Cheese and opened Taylor's present from his sisters.

He was very impressed by their selection.

Then we ended the celebration with a few friends and Grandma Grubb, and Aunt Zona for a party. Taylor said it was his best birthday! We love you, Taylor

Movie Night

Soon after we moved Asher came over for the evening and to really celebrate we had a movie night. What made it really special was watching the movie on the tv in Taylor and Jocelyn's new bedroom. When we bought the home the seller left the tv in the room and the kiddos were so excited about it we decided just to leave it. Thankfully the novelty has worn off and after hearing "No" too many times the kiddos don't ask to watch a movie every night. But, special movie nights are complete with popcorn, a special drink. friends and even more fun enjoyed in your very own room.

One change we're not so sure about it is a mortgage...

but that all fades away as we put our own key in our very own door and walk into our new home. We'll let you know how it feels to pay our very own mortgage for the first time.

Middle-Earth Anyone?!

You know that moment as you close a book you have been wrapped up in for days and sigh. You sigh as you realize you wish there were more pages to keep the adventure going and sigh because you are savoring the last words of a beautiful journey. Ok, ok, I get caught up in books, but what a fabulous way to spend your time! I was blessed to get to sit next to my in-laws fireplace in a comfy chair, with a blanket and cup of coffee to finish my first ever fantasy book, "The Hobbit". I told my friend that this was close to Heaven for me.

When I was a child I was frightened by even the "Narnia" books so I never experienced fantasy books. Now I can handle it :)

I hope every adult takes some time to be a child for a few hundred pages and enter into a fantasy. I recommend a book that takes you to Middle Earth.

I'll admit, I've never really like the game of soccer. It wasn't until I got to college that I really understood the game. So, when Kris wanted to register Jocelyn for some little ones soccer I was only ok with it.

But after watching my princess start to play...

I understood why a mama could really get into this sport

Going Camping!

One of Taylor and Jocelyn's favorite things to play this summer was "camping". They would paint all they could fit in their backpacks and head out. There was a certain spot on the sidewalk that was always their campsite and they would be out there for hours (if I let them). I love watching them imagine together.
